Training Standards; Entry to the profession is as three year undergraduate degree level training
Safe Practice; Professional standards are drawn up in consultation with internationally renowned experts.
Accountability; High standards of professional conduct are monitored and upheld with the help Independent and experienced non-acupuncturists.
The acupuncture profession in the UK is heading towards statutory regulation within the next 5 years. This will guarantee that only properly trained and qualified practitioners will be able to call themselves ‘Acupuncturists’. The British Acupuncture Council has been in the forefront of negotiations for the last ten years, but rather than wait for the lengthy process to reach its conclusion, it has forged ahead with crucial developments. These include the publication of a landmark document ‘The Standards of Practice of Acupuncture’, which sets out the standards which a practitioner should continue to meet, the funding of research to show the benefits and effectiveness of acupuncture treatment, and the constant updating of Codes which set out best safe practice and ethical behaviour.
